Lewis Carroll wrote this form of poetry, called the square poem. You can read it horizontally, or vertically starting from column one going right.
In Ferguson, police have:
- Gunned down a teenager in the street, hands already above his head
- Referred to black neighborhoods as “fucking animals”
- Dispersed a candlelight vigil with tear gas and rubber bullets
- Occupied neighborhoods and stationed tanks on street corners
- Shut down a McDonald’s, arresting two reporters in the process
- Ordered media crews out of the city and confiscated video
- Arrested members of St. Louis city council for tweeting

My grandmother had a vhs tape that had different black and white cartoons on it, and they were most likely 1920-40 Merrie Melodies cartoons, about 7 minutes long, probably like 5 cartoons on a tape. I watched this tape a lot as a small child, and what I remember now is very hazy, which is where I need your help:
The cartoon, from what I remember, was (like most from this time) deeply disturbing. It was a black and white short cartoon about, again hazy, mice who kidnap a cat, strap him to a conveyor belt, and essentially torture him while he cries for help. (My sister said she found something similar and they turned him into chili but it was in color, and this wasn’t.)
Super horribly disturbing, and I remember it having a deep impact on me. There is nothing else I remember about it, the room with the conveyor belt was maybe on a dock next to a harbor? And I don’t think there was any speaking, but there was sound. And no, the mice and cat were not Tom and Jerry.
So! If anyone has any kind of idea about this, or it sounds familiar, or you remember it perfectly, or you think of the perfect keywords, please please please please let me know because this has been driving me crazy for years, and I’ve recently become obsessed with finding this stupid thing to be sure it was real.

Exactly! The protests need to continue, we cannot be drowned out by the holidays. People expect us to put the protests on hold and wait until it’s convenient for them. Like, oh I’m sorry, you want to spend your Christmas in peace with your family? Too bad that families across the US have been mourning the loss of their sons and daughters for far too long and it isn’t fair that they won’t get the luxury of spending Christmas with them because they’re gone. This will not be swept to the side. This cannot wait until it’s convenient for white people to acknowledge. This cannot wait until the holidays are over.
This is happening. Right now. And we will not stop. No Justice, No Peace, No Christmas.
fact, black cats are less likely to be adopted because of superstition. re blog if you love these little bundles of fur just as much as any other kitty.
